What I did today for 7 hours straight

I swam the Reto Acapulco today, a 13.5 mile swim across Acapulco Bay. Nine other swimmers and I started at 3:30am and I finished 7 hours 20 minutes later. It was a lovely swim – perfect weather and the water temperature was like bath water. I overcame my fear of ocean swimming in the dark as soon as I lowered myself into the water. Ian was on the safety boat throwing me water and shakes in bottles at regular intervals, with a white board to communicate (on which he wrote not only the times for the next feeding, but jokes that made me laugh as I was swimming). How beautiful to see the Acapulco Beach lights as I swam, then the sun rise and the Acapulco skyline at the end!
Right before the Reto Acapulco swim start. That is a light on my back so the boat can see me. Right before the Reto Acapulco swim start. That is a light on my back so the boat can see me.
